Classic Ford GT500 Work in Progress Update

I’ve been spending more time working in 3D studio Max and learning a lot about rendering with Global illuminations using Vray. Even though the car model isn’t that great (its the first one I’ve done without the aid of a tutorial) the lighting and reflections sort of make up for my beginner 3D skills. Its far from complete but this particular render looked pretty awesome and since its 3D studio Max’s birthday I thought of sharing it. I work a bit on it every day, I guess its just a case of patience. I’ll fix up all the problems (there are tons) once I get the basic model complete. It still needs a rear end plus a roof and interior work.

Yes I know thats not the right horse for a Ford GT and I know the grill isn’t right either. This is really just a learning exercise for me, I’m in the process of upskilling like mad right now. I’m watching tons of learning titles specifically on 3D. From modeling to UV mapping to rendering to rigging and animation, its going to take awhile before I’m done but I think I’m on my way to producing Hollywood visual effects, hopefully I get to that point in a timely fashion :)

I’m also busy with a Ducati 916, I’m going through a tutorial for that one and I’ll upload it once I’ve completed it. After I finish that one I’ll be starting on another bike and possibly some character modeling, which should be epic.

Update 1:
So I fixed up the front of the model quite a bit the only things missing are fog lights and the rear bars which need to come up to the bumper. I’ll start working on those when I have a moment. You’ll notice I put a proper grill on and I now have a proper hood on the car. Its frontend is looking pretty slick. The car will look great once its in a environment. however at present using an HDRI to get some GI bounces is making it look pretty realistic and awesome. The only problem with the frontend apart from what I’ve mentioned is that I haven’t gotten the material for the headlight cover right yet. :)

Update 2:
So I’ve started working on the roof of the car, the polys after smoothing are rounding the corners a bit too much so I just need to add more geometry to make it stay in the corrent shape I want. I’m pretty happy with it so far. Latest render is looking really nice :)

Update 3:
So you’re probably thinking “I don’t see anything different on that hot sexy car I wish was in my drive way”. Aha! but there is a differents, for starters I added more geometry to the roof to correct the shape, it still needs some work but its definitely looking better. I also spotted some geometry mistakes with the door and the window frame which I spent more of my time fixing. There are still some issues with the window frame and the door that will need to be sorted out. I dropped the render quality to get the image out quicker, so there are some rough edges but once I get all the adjustments done I’ll get a better render out. Still lots of work required on this guy, I’m even comtemplating designing a nice interior for it which I’ll probably do once I finish the outside. Only time will tell :)
